Apr. 16th, 2003 - USLIA Top 25 Poll Presented by Shamrock Lacrosse
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 16, 2003
The fifth regular season USLIA Top 25 Poll Presented by Shamrock Lacrosse keeps the Sonoma State Seawolves on top. Shamrock Lacrosse, an innovative lacrosse company based in Hillside, New Jersey is the presenting sponsor for the 2003 Top 25 poll announced bimonthly on USLIA.com.
Sonoma stays #1 and CSU moves up 2 spots to become the 2nd best team in the USLIA. In the span of 5 days, the Colorado State Rams beat Michigan and Sonoma State. The Seawolves have since beat NCAA Division 3 Colorado College. Sonoma State will resume play this weekend in the WCLL playoffs beginning April 19th when they host Stanford University. The Rams on the other hand still have an important contest with playoff implications against Colorado this upcoming Saturday.
UCSB and Michigan both slide down one spot to #3 and #4 respectively. While it is a mystery to most why Santa Barbara was overtaken by Colorado State in the poll this week, the Gauchos remain one of the elite teams in the USLIA. UC-Santa Barbara finished their season 15-1 with a truly dominating performance against Chapman. The Michigan Wolverines visited the state of Colorado this past weekend beating Colorado in a low scoring affair and lost to Colorado State the following day. The Gauchos begin their playoff run on Saturday when they host the Arizona LaxCats.
BYU and Colorado remain at #5 and #6. The Cougars and Buffaloes are both preparing for another exciting lacrosse championship event in the Rocky Mountains. The regular season for BYU is over however Colorado has a very important game remaining in a contest against the Colorado State Rams. The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse League playoffs begin April 25th in Lafayette, Colorado.
Florida (12-2), Chico State (11-2), Texas A&M; (16-3), and Oakland (10-1) round out the Top 10. The Gators close out the season against NC State. Chico State begins their playoff run in the WCLL Playoffs when they host Cal Poly on April 19. The Texas A&M; Aggies begin playoff action against Southern Methodist April 26 with hopes to continue to the Lone Star Alliance (LSA) Championship game on April 27. The Golden Grizzles of Oakland face-off with Western Michigan to close the season.
No. 17 UC San Diego rose 6 spots from the last Top 25 Poll. Poll newcomer Boston College of the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League joins the Top 25 this week as the only remaining undefeated team the USLIA. BC replaces Virginia Tech at No 25 despite 4 wins in three days by the Hokies this past weekend.
The final regular season USLIA Top 25 Poll Presented by Shamrock Lacrosse will be announced on USLIA.com on Wednesday, April 28th.
