Ft. Collins, Colorado - The Colorado State Rams earned their 12th win of the season on Friday against the Colorado School of Mines 19-1 in front of 150 people on the campus of CSU. State raced out to a 6-1 first quarter lead and never looked back, using mostly reserves and underclassmen to defeat Mines.
The Rams defense held Mines to six shots on goal and only one first quarter tally as all players on the CSU sideline got time in the game. Dylan Bowman (Fairview HS, CO) had a breakout performance for the Rams. Bowman had seven points on the day with three goals and four assists while scooping up eight ground balls.
CSU started three freshmen on attack including Bowman. Ben Wallace (Thomas Jefferson HS, CO) also made his first start for CSU. Wallace saw extensive time and took advantage of the opportunity by scoring four goals and one assist. The young Ram attackmen worked very effectively together combining for 14 points on the day.
Colorado State's normal defensive shorts stick midfielders would get chances on the offensive end of the field. Lee Cates (Rangeview HS, CO) and Brian Vickery (Rangeview HS, CO) had standout games for CSU. Vickery had a career high two goals and two assists, including one to Cates on the final goal of the Game. Cates, who had two goals, also had a good day facing off, going 16-18.
Defensively for the Rams, three players got their first start of the year. The reserve long stick defensemen played the entire game against Mines. Pierre Archambault (Grandview HS, CO) didn't disappoint as he racked up two ground balls while causing three turnovers.
Tyson Ehinger (Heritage HS, Co) got his third start in goal for the Rams this season and recorded three saves while allowing one goal. Ehinger played the first half being replaced by Adam Taylor (Air Academy HS, CO). Taylor held Mines scoreless in his two quarters of work.
The next game for Colorado State (12-0) will come next Saturday, April 9th against RMLC foe Utah State University. The week after that, the Rams will look toward one of their most important games of the year when they face the Colorado Buffaloes at Shea Stadium in Denver, CO.
Game Notes:
-- Fifteen different Rams scored a point in the game, with four Rams getting their first career points.
-- Defensemen Dylan Preble (Bainbridge HS, WA) scored the first goal of his career with a longstick.
-- For the first time in the history of CSU lacrosse, a goalie took a face off. In the fourth quarter Tyson Ehinger and Mines' goalie Chris Mace faced off, after a small scrum Ehinger walked away with the win.
