Oct. 2nd, 2005 - CSU Beats BYU 7-6 in Fall Scrimmage

Rams nip the Cougars in Fall Ball action from the Fort.

COLORADO STATE MEN'S LACROSSE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Fort Collins, CO – In their first live action of the fall season, the Colorado State men's lacrosse team used a superb five-point effort from senior attackman Tim Chorey (Algonquin HS, MA) to beat RMLC rival Brigham Young 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Though the game did not count towards any official records, both teams played to win and treated a fairly good-sized crowd of about 300 people to an entertaining and well-fought contest.

With the Rams leading 6-4 midway through the fourth quarter, BYU scored two goals in under a minute to tie the game. Sophomore midfielder John Tomlinson (Smokey Hill HS, CO) then beat his man from the top of the box and bounced home the winner for CSU with 2:27 left.

Chorey led all scorers with three goals and two assists and BYU's Tyler Monteath, a Colorado native, scored three to lead the Cougars. Senior midfielder Michael Murphy (Lake Oswego HS, OR) pitched in with two goals and sophomore attackman Dylan Bowman (Fairview HS, CO) had two assists.

Senior goaltender Pete Jokisch (Rockhurst Jesuit HS, MO) made 8 saves over the course of the game while BYU split time between Chris Powers (6 saves) and Glenn Makechnie (4 saves).

The teams concluded the day by playing a "5th quarter" to get some of their younger players some more game experience.

Colorado State now prepares for its Fall Invitational tournament on October 8th and the annual Alumni game on October 22nd.
