Sep. 20th, 2002 - SELC Tournament moves to Atlanta
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- September 18, 2002
The 2003 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Championship Tournament will be held April 25-27 at North Springs High School in Atlanta, Georgia. With a growing high school and youth lacrosse community in the metro Atlanta area, tournament organizers expect better crowd support from the Georgia lacrosse community. From 1998 - 2002, the SELC Championships had been held at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Tournament Director Tom Lewis noted the tournament's move to Atlanta. "For the first time, the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference is hosting its championship in a city where lacrosse has fast become a well established sport. Now that lacrosse has been sanctioned by the State of Georgia, there is no better time to showcase the talents of this league's players and to show the younger players what level of play they can graduate to right here in the Southeast. Atlanta, with its 25+ boys and girls high school programs, will provide a tremendous opportunity for our fans, players and coaches to participate in what is sure to be our best year in the history of our league."
The top six Division A teams based on regular season results qualify for the SELC Division A Bracket of the Championships. The top four Division B teams will qualify for the SELC Division B Bracket. The winner of the SELC Division A Bracket receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2003 USLIA National Championship Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri.
North Springs Head Coach Travis Pearre expressed his excitement about the 2003 SELC championships' move to his school. "I am looking forward to expanding high school lacrosse in Georgia and this is a great way to expose this great sport and our school. A successful championship played right here at North Springs High School will go a long way to achieving our goals."
The SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) is a collegiate lacrosse club league based in the Southeastern United States.
